The question of possible military action by Israel against Egypt's water resources is hypothetical and highly speculative, however, it is frequently discussed in the context of regional security and the struggle for water resources. Analyzing possible scenarios, despite their low probability, allows one to understand the vulnerabilities of infrastructure and the degree of interdependence between countries in the region. It should be emphasized that, at present, relations between Israel and Egypt are peaceful and governed by a peace treaty, making any military action highly unlikely.

Geopolitical Context: Water as a Weapon

Water in the Middle East has always been a strategic resource. For Egypt, the Nile River is the main source of water, providing over ninety percent of the country's needs. Egypt traditionally considers any actions threatening its water supply as a threat to national security. In turn, Israel, also experiencing water shortages, actively invests in desalination and wastewater treatment technologies. Hypothetically, military methods could include both direct strikes on hydrological facilities and indirect actions aimed at blocking or contaminating water sources.

Direct Strikes on Hydrological Infrastructure

The most obvious military method is striking hydrological facilities within Egypt itself. This could involve destroying dams and levees on the Nile, destroying pumping stations and irrigation canal systems. Such actions could lead to catastrophic decreases in river water levels, disruption of agricultural land, and widespread drinking water shortages. However, even hypothetically, such a scenario is unlikely due to the massive humanitarian consequences and international condemnation. Moreover, modern anti-aircraft systems make such strikes difficult to implement.

Strikes on the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam

Another, more complex scenario involves indirectly affecting Egypt's water resources by striking the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on the Blue Nile. Ethiopia, building this dam, has long been at the center of a water conflict with Egypt and Sudan. Hypothetically, Israel, with close ties to Ethiopia, could use this influence or even strike the dam to limit the flow of water into the Nile. The destruction of the dam would lead to an immediate release of a huge volume of water, which could on one hand cause catastrophic flooding in Sudan and Egypt, and on the other hand, result in subsequent long-term decreases in flow and disruptions in water supply. However, such a scenario would be an act of war against Ethiopia and would entail significant international consequences.

Biological or Chemical Contamination of Water Sources

A more covert but equally destructive method is the contamination of Nile water with biological or chemical agents. This could render the water unsuitable for drinking and agricultural use for an extended period. Such actions are difficult to trace and prove, but they constitute a war crime and could be considered an act of aggression against the entire population of Egypt. This scenario also poses a high risk to Israel itself, as the spread of contamination could affect its water resources.

Blocking or Diverting Water Flows

Theoretically, a scenario is possible where Israel, acting through its allies or proxy forces, tries to block or divert some of the Nile's inflows located in other countries' territories (such as Sudan or South Sudan). This could be achieved through the construction of small dams or altering river courses. However, this method is extremely complex logistically and requires a long time to implement. Moreover, it would be quickly detected and intercepted by the international community.

Cyberattacks on Water Supply Management Systems

In today's world, military methods go beyond physical impact. Cyberattacks on Egypt's water supply management systems could disrupt the operation of pumping stations, open sluices of dams, or manipulate data on water quality. Such actions could lead to technological disasters or disruptions in water supply. Cyberwarfare is less risky in terms of direct confrontation, but it requires a high level of technical preparation and intelligence.

Political and International Context

It should be emphasized that all the described scenarios are hypothetical and unlikely. Israel and Egypt maintain peaceful relations, and international law strictly prohibits any actions aimed at depriving civilian populations of access to water. Moreover, Egypt has a powerful army and allied relationships with several countries, making any direct aggression extremely dangerous for Israel. Thus, the issue of military deprivation of Egypt's water remains more of an academic discussion than a real political practice.
