According to global research from 2024-2025, the answer to this question may surprise you.World Reading Leaders: The United States and IndiaAccording to the ranking, compiled based on data from World Population Review and a survey of over 6.5 million respondents from 102 countries, the absolute leaders in the number of books read and time spent reading are The United States and India. Americans maintain the lead, spending an average of 357 hours a year on reading, which is almost 7 hours a week. On average, a resident of the United States manages to read about 17 books a year.India, a country with rich literary traditions, follows with a result of 352 hours a year and 16 books a year. Interestingly, the gap between the two leaders in terms of time spent reading is only 5 minutes a week. This makes India the only country outside of Europe and North America to join the group of the most avid readers.Top 10 Most Reading Countries in the WorldAccording to data from CEOWORLD magazine and World Population Review, the top ten leaders in the number of books read per year look like this: 1.
